Mission organized alongside Waste Expo trade fair

The matchmaking mission is organized in institutional partnership with Sebrae (Serviço Brasileiro de Apoio à Micro e Pequena Empresa).

Low Carbon Business Action in Brazil will conduct in 2017 a second matchmaking mission addressing the high potential for cooperation in Biogas and Solid Waste Management between Brazilian and European entrepreneurs.

The waste value chain stretches along different categories of professionals and enterprises involved in the management, recycling and reuse of organic and raw materials. These stages of the waste management process are directly related to environmental sustainability concepts such as "the circular economy" and "waste to energy", opening prospects for the transformation of the business as usual scenarios, globally, both in the solid waste management and biogas production.

As Brazil seeks to enforce the National Policy for Solid Waste (Law 1305/2010) - this EU sponsored matchmaking mission offers a great opportunity for waste operators to comply with national regulations through the upgrade of technologies and processes in place.

A sector mapping report was prepared through the assessment of technological routes and business potentials for European small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Brazilian Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Biogas markets, both for technology and service providers.

Considering the technical and entrepreneurial scope of the LCBA project, the delimitation of technologies is as follows:

  • Solid Waste Management: Consulting, planning, logistics, monitoring and information and communication tools (ICT)
  • Solid Waste Management: Collection and transportation
  • Solid Waste Management: Technology or equipment for sorting/separation
  • Solid Waste Management: Processing and upgrading of recyclable solid waste as input materials for production processes
  • Reverse Logistics: Planning, consulting, operationalization
  • Organic Waste Management: Composting
  • Biogas Production: Engineering and project implementation
  • Biogas Production: Manufacture or supply of biodigestors or other equipment
  • Biogas Production: Upgrading or compression
  • Biogas Use: Operations and maintenance for heat generation
  • Biogas Use: Operations and maintenance for power generation
  • Biogas: Monitoring, metering or control systems and equipment
  • Waste-to-energy from agricultural waste (Biomass)
  • Waste-to-energy from animal waste (Livestock)
  • Waste-to-energy from urban and construction waste
